Lip Action

23. November 2014 Style 14

I had known for weeks that our friend’s 30th surprise party was coming up but I guess I kept procrastinating figuring out what I was going to wear and i knew it was going to be tough as I hadn’t bought an event kinda dress or anything in a while. So low and behold,Β  I got home from work at about 6.30pm and had about an hour to decide, shower, get dressed and put it all together and of course get to the party by 8.30 sharp in time for the surprise. I generally avoid getting myself into these situations because I really don’t like to work under pressure like that. Outfit planning is certainly key when it comes these kind of events…I know, such a rookie move. So I began frantically trying on different looks, cut-out jumpsuit, nah,way too skimpy for a 30th. Cape dress, geez no time to tape anything at this point, bandage dress..Hmm too sexy, it’s not your 30th Mati. By the time I got to the third outfit Tapi lost interest (I know this because his responses went from, “yeah that’s dope babe” to “yes that’s fine babe, let’s go”). Things generally go downhill from that point, he gets annoyed because we’re getting late i get snappy because I’m under pressure and he keeps telling me that I look “fine” which drives me mental because who wants to look just “fine” at a 30th!! With about 15 minutes to leave the house and on the verge of frustration tears (FYI,Β  frustration tears are not actual tears that run down your face, they simply hang around in the corners of your eyes) anyway, so i was almost at that point with 15 minutes to go then i suddenly remembered that I got this peculiar two-piece a few months ago from H&M and I hadn’t had a chance to wear it, probably because it’s not the easiest outfit to wear without looking a little over the top. I know , I know… it doesn’t really scream “30th” but hey, I was running out of options here. So I quickly put this ensemble on, gave myself that mirror side-eye, thought twice, but convinced myself that I could make it work.I grabbed half a bottle of s-curl, slicked my mane back to try get this wet look going, with pretty much no time for accessories I picked up a pair of the most sophisticated heels I find and we were out the door.

As a last-minute option I think it kinda worked out. In hindsight, I’m actually drawn to the playfulness of the lip print and I’m glad I didn’t have time to accessorize because the lips are quite enough. I’m also loving the awkward shape of the crop top and the tube skirt is a good length for my wider hip:length of leg ratio. I should probably be thanking those heels though, they may have been the key factor in pulling this all together. I can see how someone may have seen this outfit in H&M and thought to themselves, way too much lip and walked past , but I’m actually not minding all this lip action…Speaking of lip action, us wives spent most of the night talking about how we can get our men to pick their clothes up off the floor. HA! Life. When did I get here?? πŸ™‚

Reading this it feels like you’re actually frantic as you write which is great for picturing the whole scene you’re talking about! And the outfit πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ LOOOOOVE!!! So very playful and still maintains a level of sophistication.. Somehow reminds me of the 1960s, but then again could be the edit

The outfit is gorgeous. I agree with Colleen, I also thought it was about lipsticks. When you find the answer to the clothes on the floor dilemma please let me know. I would pay a lot of money for such info , LOL. My mum used to throw away (in the bin futi) mine and my sister’s clothes when she would find them on the floor, she would say “hanti hadzina basa?” I tried that and let’s just say my DH wasn’t happy about that, so I am going to use that on my kids only.

Hahaha! Dont make laugh! In the bin? Given that i buy all of his clothes that would probably stress me out more than him. In fact he probably wouldnt notice! Haha dont give up the struggle keep insisting . I’ll be honest tho T generally places his on the bed. He says i always “beat him to it” and i should leave it and he’ll do it later. 😏..

When i saw the title “Lip action” i thought the post was about lipsticks. I went through the post eagerly anticipating a section on lip stick only to get to the end look at the pictures then it clicked what lip action meant! talk about a ZI blonde moment HAHAHA. I love the outfit! Like i said before i love your blog cause it’s exposing me to outfits i would never think of buying πŸ™‚
