Scuba Chic

08. July 2015 Style 4

I had told her I was looking for something white. A high neck, something simple and chic. It was about 6.30 pm and the show was starting in half an hour. Whatever it was, I had to make it work. I had put all my faith in Emily once again and I knew that if anyone could come up with something that was so ME,  in literally hours it would be her. I had spent two months planning and organizing everyone else and hadn’t  thought once about what I was actually going to wear to FreekÁ!

Both Emily and I have been obsessing over Scuba-knit. Emily a bit more than me to be honest! From a designer’s perspective it’s a dream fabric to work with. It’s easy to drape and cut and it runs smoothly on the machine and from the customer’s perspective it really molds to your body, evens out your silhouette, hugs your curves and even gives the illusion of curves. It’s also quite a thick fabric which means that even though it was the middle of winter and I was showing a bit of skin I was still quite reasonably warm. It’s certainly trending on the runways all over the globe especially in the high-end  ready-to-wear collections and the best part of all is that it’s a polyester blend which makes it relatively non expensive. (Ok enough, somebody needs to pay a girl for marketing the heck out of this fabric, cheque please!!)

So, do you rock the faux fur or is it just too wannabe mink? I stood staring at this faux fur beauty with my head titled to one side in H&M completely undecided. It’s only when I noticed the vulcher from the corner of my eye waiting for me to leave so she could grab my furry prey. That was it. It was coming with me and just as well. When I put on my faux, I somehow began to understand the craze around fur vests! I felt like a million dollars and mine isn’t even real!! All i can say is “Tell Peta my mink draggin on the floor” **Kanye Voice**

This time my afro-chic was in the detail. A gorgeous Atokihoa Kizuri hand-made clutch, shout out to Nkatha who sent me this decadent piece from Brisbane (by the way she sent me a few, drop me an email if you want to buy one). The clutch was the perfect shade of pink to match my electric pink lippy! The earrings i grabbed off Wa-nyika about five mins before the doors opened , get yourself some afro goodness for only $10 a pair.Lastly, a pair of Tony Bianco’s to leave any girl green with envy.
