27. April 2015 Style 6

I met Diane, a graphic designer by day and freelance photographer by night at the VAMFF bloggers brunch last month and we hit it off like a house on fire. Surely enough it wasn’t long before we’d locked in some dates for a photo shoot. All we needed now were some fab looks and a fab make up artist to make our vision a reality. I got in touch with Katya, Director of Gusto and Elan a local independent Designer boutique in Fitzroy and Raff, a professional Melbourne make up artist who I’d been following on Instagram for a while. Raff has been in the make up game for five years now and she also happens to be my personal hero (mom of three beautiful children, wife, kid’s church teacher, make-up artist and always looking on point). As corny as it may sound, dynamite certainly does come in small packages. These five foot bombshells were just so full of energy…even on a 13 degree, rainy, windy Saturday afternoon in Melbourne.

Time to address the elephant in the room…All three of us stood speechless as I opened up the bag to reveal this sea of glistening olive green. The only words we could get out of our mouths were “SHOULDER PADS”! This breath taking piece of art is by House of Zhivago. The designers behind this brand are based in Perth and have recently blown up on the international stage after a certain Miss Kylie Jenner wore one of their striking pieces from their Spring 2015 collection…Yep! You heard me, Kylie Jenner! I digress, back to the shoot! Once we saw this dress our minds went into over drive. Raff pictured a strong bold lip colour and strong cheek bones, Diane began to visualize a strong architectural background to let that olive green pop. Meanwhile I had began to channel my inner Whitney…ya’ll know what I’m talking about. When you’d be home alone and you’d try on your mom’s special occasion dress, douse your face with make-up, grab a hair brush, jump on the bed and sing to Whitney’s “I wanna dance with somebody” yes, It was that time, all that practice…it came down to this moment. I had to shut it down.

Thank you to Gusto and Elan for this gorgeous dress, Diane for making a girl’s dreams come true and to Raff for making me brand new!! As you know I like to count my coins not spend them, but this dress is worth it, I felt like a million dollars and sometimes a girl just needs that. So if you have a special event coming up and you want to channel your inner Whitney…Hit up Gusto and Elan, and spend those coins honey!!
